jark.me - my new home on the internets

Journal Entry: Sat Mar 24, 2012, 5:36 PM
Long time no see! It has been a super-busy few years. Last year especially so, with the huge 9.1 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster. The March 11 event hat trick caused a huge amount of pain throughout Japan, touching and affecting the lives of millions.

As a result of the disaster relief efforts, I was crazy busy last year, especially the months immediately following the huge earthquake and its after-effects. I never really got time to think through a decent web strategy ... until now.

Without further ado, I would like to introduce my deviantART family and friends to jark.me.

What started out as a cool URL shortener for my personal use on twitter has been transformed into my new home on the internets. This is the one site where I will primarily share my thoughts on various topics and upload content - such as pictures - for sharing.

I hope all is well with everyone around here. Sorry I do not participate like I once did, but life has dramatically changed since those good ole days - days I will always remember with fond memories.

Take a look at jark.me when you have an opportunity and please let me know what, if anything, you think of the site. I always love to receive constructive criticism on my projects.

Speaking of which, before I run ...

A few close friends and I are working on a web-related project many deviants might find intriguing. Stay tuned for more information. ;-)

Cheers!

My birthday is on March 11 and now everyone thinks I draw pentagrams all day and raise dark spirits instead of making real friends.

That it so true, although almost 2 years have passed already since the tsunami. I went to the Philippines 2 weeks before it happened, my mother was left in Japan. I was shocked when I heard of it... I mean, woaw... I would have been in Japan and experienced that earthquake if I didn't go to Phil. and lots of lives were lost, which is too sad...

Oh well, I am amazed by the fact that a Co-founder of DeviantART lives in the country I live in.

He conned some (many?) people into donating money to the cause with promises that he would "fight the good fight", struck a deal somewhere along the process (which he did not talk about at all), cashed in on both dA and those gullible people who bought into his baby-crying and suddenly people did not deserve to be entertained with even one liner about it.

Serves them right to fall for internet drama. Kony 2012 was the most recent example, lol.

Interesting website, I like the colour palette: it looks good, clear and simple. :)

I'm curious about the web-related project you talked about, now! :D

Thanks...I'm glad you like the color palette. It was one of the things that attracted me to the theme. Plus, it integrated orange sparingly enough so that it doesnt appear overused.

Mind you, I'm not trying to be rude here... but I had expected more from an established member of dA... or at least one so 'technical'? I think that's the word I'm looking for....
I like your site.. it's clean, well balanced, and is done very well.. but what gets me is that it looks like so many other blogs out there. It does't have a personal touch to it, or what would look like one to me since I really don't know you. It does work though so that's a great start, but I would suggest really making it yours.. something to really be proud of. Like a work of art on its own.
I would use my own site as an example but it's currently under construction and all I have is the home page in my gallery.

I wish I could give more crit, but like I said, I don't know you so from a professional stand point, your site is spot on. But from a personal one.. I feel it could use some more personal touches.

With that said, you've done a great job so far and I, as well as many others, are looking forward to this project. ^^

Have a good one!

Thanks for the constructive feedback. You are absolutely, definitely not being rude. I do appreciate you taking the time to offer a quick critique like this.

You hit the nail on the head as to why my site is so simple: I'm technically oriented, not design oriented. My ability to design something pretty is almost non-existent. Get me in some PHP and MySQL, and now we're talking...that's more my style.

Really though, what I am aiming for with jark.me is in the vain of sites I really adore, such as Daring Fireball and Kottke. I wanted to keep it minimal and not flash, while giving it a somewhat personal feel. The theme is one for sale, for anyone to purchase, but I've yet to run across it in use anywhere.

In any event, thanks again for the feedback. I'm always down for it. ;-)

You are most welcome, and I am glad to have my opinion at least reviewed instead of balked at.

Since you are technically oriented rather than design oriented, the site makes a ton of sense.

If it looks good, runs good, serves its purpose, but most of all makes you happy, then it must be the right design for you!

Good luck in your future endeavors and if you ever need any more feedback, don't hesitate to ask. I am more than happy to give my 2 cents whether needed or not. :aww:

a new mission has come to my attention, and being in the USA i am restricted in my ability to access softwares of a specialty nature, more specifically software by a company called CELSYS who created the QUMARION model translator, something I truly wish to own (same as with the series of other software through their CLIP-STUDIO store, namely RETAS Studio/Novel Studio, Clip Painter and so on)

How much do you know about these programs(price, availability, etc)?
